How to use it
- Prepare the structure in the blind structure calculator, then choose “Open this structure in the clock”. Without a structure, the clock plays the calculator’s default one: 20 players, a 10,000 stack, four hours.
- Start. The first start allows the browser to play sounds; it is also what loads them.
- Go full screen on the room’s TV, connected to the computer over HDMI.
- During the tournament, pause, go to the previous or next level, or add and take off a minute. On the keyboard: space to start or pause, arrow keys to change level.
The sounds
The clock has MyPokerCaptain’s three sounds: a long beep one minute before the end of the level, a short beep on each of the last five seconds, and a rising tone when the next level starts. They are scheduled as soon as the level starts, so they play on time even if another tab is showing. The “Sound on” button turns them off and on again.
What the clock doesn’t do
This clock is deliberately simple: one structure, its time and its sounds.
- It knows nothing about players, eliminations, the average stack or payouts.
- It keeps nothing in the browser: reloading the page takes it back to the first level.
- It isn’t shared between screens: every open page has its own clock.
- It doesn’t open without a connection, even though it runs offline once started.
MyPokerCaptain does all of that: the clock runs with the players, the tables and the cash desk, shows on the room display with sponsor logos, can be followed on players’ phones by QR code, and reopens even without internet.
Frequently asked questions
How do I show a poker tournament clock on a TV?
Connect the computer to the TV over HDMI, open this page and press “Full screen”: the time left, the blinds and the next break fill the screen. A smart TV with a web browser can also open the page directly.
Does the clock work without internet?
Once it has started, yes, as long as the page stays open: the calculation and the sounds are in the page. You do need a connection to open or reload it. MyPokerCaptain, on the other hand, reopens even without a network.
Do the sounds play when the tab isn't showing?
Yes. Each level's sounds are scheduled as soon as the level starts, and the browser plays them even if another tab is in front. While the clock is running, the screen stays on in browsers that allow it. If the computer goes to sleep, the sounds stop, but the clock catches up with the elapsed time when it wakes.
Can I use my own blind structure?
Yes, through the blind structure calculator: set the number of players, the stack, the length, the level length, the smallest chip, the ante and the rebuys, then open the structure in the clock. For a structure written level by level, you need MyPokerCaptain.
What happens if I reload the page?
The clock goes back to the first level, stopped: it keeps nothing in your browser. The structure stays in the page address. Use the arrows to get back to the right level, then the “− 1 min” and “+ 1 min” buttons to adjust the time.
Is the clock free?
